The Middle East situation was a "very quiet backwater" during the Big Three Foreign Ministers meeting which ended Saturday, it was learned here today.
The Middle East question did not constitute a specific item on the conference agenda, an authoritative source revealed, although it was reviewed within the framework of the world situation. He also stated that during the discussion in preparation for the forthcoming parley of the North Atlantic Pact powers no mention was made of a new Mediterranean grouping.
The same source indicated that the Middle East situation was considered at the bilateral Anglo-American talks which preceded the Big Three meeting. However, he did not disclose any of the details of the talk between Secretary of State Dean Acheson and Foreign Secretary Ernest Bevin.
