Peace in the Middle East is still “unhappily far away,” Arthur Lourie, Israel’s Ambassador to Britain, declared last night at a meeting celebrating Israel’s 13th anniversary.
The Ambassador said he had reached that conclusion from his recent service as acting head of the Israel delegation at the United Nations during the illness of Michael Comay, the permanent head of the delegation. The meeting was also the occasion for the celebration of completion of a project to plant a memorial forest in Israel to the late Countess Mountbatten.
