Forty-one former members of the Jewish police ? the Wetzlar Camp were released without bail today pending individual re? of the six-month sentences imposed on them last week. Their release came ? intervention by Judge Louis E. Levinthal, advisor on Jewish affairs to the ?ilitary Government.
The DP’s were found guilty of participating in a riot and assaulting U.S. ? after their headquarters at the Wetzlar Camp had been attacked by a group of ?onists with the tacit blessing of the military authorities, whom they had con## that the camp police were “Communists.” Levinthal pointed out that the evi## did not justify the sentences and the authorities agreed to the releases. It ?ected that the prison terms will be cancelled.
One of five other DP’s arrested at the same time was freed yesterday for ? of evidence, while the other four are out on bail awiating trial next month.
