The Jos. Schlitz Brewing Company has made gifts totaling $50,000 to three Milwaukee Jewish organizations in memory of the late Sol E. Abrams, who died last June. Mr. Abrams, who had been vice-president and general manager of Schlitz at the time of his retirement in 1961, had been associated with the brewery for almost 70 years.
Recipients of the memorial gifts are Mount Sinai Hospital, which received $25,000; the Milwaukee Jewish Welfare Fund, which received $15,000; and the B’nai B’rith, which received $10,000. Mr. Abrams’ chief communal interest was Mount Sinai Hospital, where he had been a member of the board of directors for 25 years.
Melvin S. Zaret, executive vice-president of the Milwaukee Jewish Welfare Fund, said that his organization would benefit by all three of the Schlitz gifts. “Both Mount Sinai Hospital and the B’nai B’rith are working partners of the Welfare Fund, which is the Jewish community’s central planning and fund-raising instrument,” Mr. Zaret said.
