The boast that “international Judaism” had been removed from the cultural life of Germany was the burden of an address by Paul Joseph Goebbels, Nazi Minister of Propaganda and Enlightenment, at a mass meeting here.
“We have eradicated international Judaism from our cultural life, have purified our theatres and movie palaces and have laid new foundations for our entire spiritual life,” Goebbels said in reviewing the achievements of the National Socialists. “Though many have called us hard, we shall rule twenty years from today in the same manner in which we are ruling today.”
A warning to the churches not to interfere with the National Socialist regime was also issued by Goebbels in the same address. The propaganda minister declared that the places of worship were empty because the people did not appreciate theological disputes.
