The Germans have discovered that the anti-Nazi boycott, like the ill wind that blows some good, will eventually redound to the benefit of the Third Reich.
State Minister Hermann Esser is the discoverer. He announced the fact recently in opening the “Brown Fair” at Kempten.
“We shall make use of the boycott which the Jews have launched against us in the outside world,” he declared, “and which can never affect us vitally, in order to free ourselves from dependence on the outside world.”
Our engineers, our chemists, our business men and our workers will be able to see to it that the German people do not lose by it. The German nation has got over worse things.
“For a time they can boycott German products. They can get on without us for a time. But they cannot forever get on without the exact work of the Germans, without the achievements of a nation that has given civilization its greatest possessions. Meanwhile we shall see to it that German business does not suffer. We shall see who holds out longest. We shall see whether the world can do for long with Germany, not only as a selling factor, but as a buyer.”
