A special ministerial committee ended today an argument about observance of the liberation of East Jerusalem by approving a prayer rally in the Old City on May 15. The police had originally denied permission for such an event on grounds that the Hebrew date of the liberation coincided this year with the anniversary of Israel’s independence. In the past that observance has been marked by demonstrations by Arabs. On May 14, a Torah Scroll will be installed at the Western Wall by parents of the soldiers who were killed in the liberation of the Old City.
