Ministers and Knesseters met Monday with Arye Eliav and urged him to return to the Labor Party, which he left last year. But Eliav said his return is not merely a technical issue, but one of substance. He said the country was facing difficult political challenges and the question of his return depended upon the way the party’s leadership would hope with those challenges. The ministers and Knesseters who met with Eliav are considered supporters of a more dove-ish line and felt that he was needed back in the ranks of the party.
