Minneapolis Jewish Mayor Re-elected; Jews Elected to Important Posts

Mayor Naftalin, this city’s first Jewish chief executive, has been re-elected to a second term by a larger plurality than he received two years ago, according to unofficial returns released here. Mayor Naftalin secured 63,108 votes to his opponent’s 56,495, giving him a plurality of 6,313 compared to a plurality of 1,708 votes two years ago.

Also sent back to office here was Alderman Joe Greenstein. Other prominent Jews named to various offices were Mrs. Charles Hymes, former president of the National Council of Jewish Women, who was elected to the Minneapolis Board of Education; and Benjamin Berger and Mrs. Louis R. Smerling, who were elected to the Park Board.
