Earned violinist Miecha Elman today criticized equally renowned violinist Jascha Heifetz for playing the works of Richard Strauss during his Israeli concert tour.
In an interview in the Jewish Herald of this city, Mr. Elman declared that it was “an abuse of Israeli hospitality” to play Strauss music. “I have-nothing against Heifetz as an artist, but as an Israel guest he was fully aware of the situation there and he should not have offended the population by playing Strauss,” Mr. Elman said. Strauss headed the German Chamber of Music during the Nazi regime.
