A young Czechoslovakian Jew who says he mistook a German girl for a Czech citizen while on a vacation in the Reich has been sentenced by the Chemnitz Criminal Court to one year’s imprisonment for “race defilement,” it was reported here.
Hans Loewenstein, 22, son of a well-known Carlsbad manufacturer, had gone to Germany to spend some money belonging to his mother, which could not be exported from the country because of Nazi restrictions on currency transfer.
While staying at a Chemnitz hotel, he became friendly with a danseuse. On seeking to return home, he was arrested at the Czech frontier. Loewenstein declared in court he thought the girl was a Czech citizen. It turned out she came from Munich, Germany.
