A plea to the Hungarian Government to mitigate the prison sentences imposed on ten Hungarian Jewish leaders in Budapest last week for allegedly organizing illegal emigration from Hungary to Israel, was made today by the Agudath Israel, Orthodox Jewish organization.
H.A. Goodman, political secretary of the group, made the plea to G. Pulay, the Hungarian charge d’ affaires here. He pointed out that the Jewish desire to emigrate to Israel had been overwhelmingly approved by the United Nations and asked mitigation or annulment of the sentences. The Hungarian official said ha would forward the Agudist plea to Budapest.
