Agreement on the merger of the Mizrachi and Labor Mizrachi organizations in Israel into one body has been reached at a two-day conference here of representatives of both parties. The agreement will now go to the central committees of both groups for ratification and will be brought for final action to a joint conference of both groups immediately after next Passover.
The agreement provides that both groups will become departments of a Mizrachi world central committee with headquarters in Jerusalem, which will also publish the newspaper Hatzofeh as the organ of both parties. In addition, the two will submit joint lists in all elections for Zionist congresses, Parliament, the municipal elections and other political contests. Leaders of the parties, who participated in the merger discussions, stressed that the amalgamation roust be complete in order to more effectively deal with fundamental religious problems in Israel and elsewhere.
