Gedaliah Bublick, member of the political advisory committee of the Jewish Agency and honorary president of the Mizrachi Organization of America, today told 500 delegates attending the extraordinary national Mizrachi conference here that “the Russian formula for implementing the partition proposal is a far more practical one in a certain sense than is that of the United States.”
He asserted that “the Russian delegate’s latest proposal which calls for the establishment of a special commission by the Security Council appears to be better and more realistic in that the U.N. commission would have strong governing powers during the transition period, whereas the U.S. proposal would appoint a commission with only advisory influences.” Mr. Bublick added that “to implement the creation of Arab and Jewish states, it os absolutely imperative that the United Nations fashion a superrisory commission with full powers to maintain peace in the Holy Land until the Jewish State is born.” There is no conceivable reason, he remarked, why the United States and Russia cannot arrive at a “working agreement for solving the testy Palestine problem.”
Speaking at the afternoon session of the second day of the two-day parley, Mr. Bablick asserted that “the future Jewish State cannot suffer to lose part of the Megeves the United States reportedly has proposed. The removal of the Negev seaport Aquaba from Jewish Palestine will be a sharp blow to Jewish economy, for Aquaba since King ##on’s time has been a vital trade outlet to the East. If this window to eastern trade is shut, Jewish Palestine will suffer tremendously.”
