Rabbi Meyer Berlin and Rabbi Benzion Uziel, Chief Rabbi of Jaffa and Tel Aviv, were received by President Coolidge.
The President expressed the hope that the Jews will succeed in Palestine as well as they have in the United States. He also expressed pleasure at the gift of John D. Rockefeller, Jr.. of $2,000,000 for the museum in Jerusalem.
Rabbi Berlin and Rabbi Uziel extended greetings to the President on behalf of the Mizrachi. Rabbi Louis J. Schwefel of Washington accompanied the delegation. They expressed their appreciation for the friendly attitude of the American Government toward the Zionist movement. Rabbi Uziel also expressed his gratitude for the assistance America gave to the Jews in Palestine during the war.
The delegation was introduced to the president by Sir Adrian Baillie of the British Embassy.
Rabbi Berlin and Rabbi Uziel also called on Sir Esme Howard, British Ambassador to the United States. The delegation laid particular stress on the labor situation in Palestine and expressed hope that the Jews will be given proper recognition with regard to employment in connection with the Dead Sea and Haifa projects and that wages would be paid in accordance with the Jewish standard of living.
