The Mizrachi, orthodox Zionist group, today officially withdrew from membership in the Vaad Leumi, the Jewish National Council of Palestine.
The action, which had been impending for some time, was taken because “the Assefath Hanivcharim (the Jewish elected assembly) has not succeeded in finding any way of bringing all parts of the Yishub (the Jewish population) into the Knesseth Israel (Palestine Jewish community organization).”
Another reason cited for this step in the official statement announcing withdrawal was that “the Vaad Leumi is in fact entirely under the control of the Histadruth (Jewish labor federation of Palestine).”
