It will now be possible to print Hebrew with the vowel marks on the monotype machine, Lord Askwith announced at the annual meeting of the Lanston Monotype Corporation here.
Lord Askwith stated that an invention had been perfected for this type. The machine has been enlarged in order to print 48-point instead of 36-point type. It is expected that 72-point will soon be available, making the machine the largest in the world.
W. J. Burch said that with the development in Palestine and the opening of the Hebrew University, there would be an ever-growing demand for the new machine.
SAMUEL LAMPORT NAMED TO NEW YORK UNIVERSITY CENTENNIAL FUND COMMITTEE
Samuel C. Lamport has been appointed a member of the Centennial Fund Committee of New York University.
The University, which in 1931 will celebrate the 100th anniversary of its founding, has created in the Centennial Fund Office a permanent organization having as its purpose to keep in the mind of the public this institution’s scientific work, public service and financial needs.
In the working out of its plans the Centennial Fund Committee will endeavor to raise $73,000,000 as necessary new capital for progressive activity during the century.
Percy S. Straus is chairman of the Executive Committee of the Centennial Fund.
The cornerstone of the new synagogue and Talmud Torah of the Congregation Ahavath Achim, Bridgeport, Conn., was laid on Sunday. The Congregation Ahavath Achim was established 21 years ago.
