Monroe Abbey, a Canadian Jewish leader, has been appointed to the Order of Canada, the highest distinction given by the government. The announcement of the award was made by Jule Leger, Governor-General of Canada. The award, which includes a scroll and a medal, will be presented to Abbey in ceremonies in Ottawa after New Year’s Day. Abbey is honorary president of the Canadian Jewish Congress and honorary vice-president of the World Jewish Congress.
