Montague Samuel, a Jewish real estate dealer, announced today that he would pay the entire billion-mark reprisal “fine” imposed on German Jewry within a week–but in the defaulted 1920 German currency. Such payment, Samuel claimed, would fulfill to the letter the German Government’s demand that the “fine” be paid in German currency.
