Leaders in science, medicine and social service have joined in praising the achievements of Montefiore Hospital, which yesterday began the celebration of its fiftieth anniversary.
The chief scientific feature of the anniversary program will be the week-long clinical conference on chronic diseases at the hospital, the first of its kind in medical history. A dinner in celebration of the founding of the hospital will be held at the Waldorf-Astoria Thursday evening.
Heading the list of notables in health, education, and welfare work who paid tribute to Montefiore Hospital’s contribution to their fields are:
Dr. Haven Emerson, Professor of Public Health, Columbia University; Dr. Willard C. Rapplye, Dean of the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University; Dr. John Wyckoff, Dean of New York University and Bellevue Medical College; Dr. Abraham Flexner, director of the Institute for Advanced Study; Dr. S. S. Goldwater, Commissioner of Hospitals; Dr. Bernard Sachs, president of the New York Academy of Medicine; Homer Folks, secretary of the State Charities Aid Association; Dr. Francis Carter Wood, Institute of Cancer Research, Columbia University, and Dr. Alfred E. Cohn, member of the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research.
