Israel’s cost-of-living index rose by 1.3 percent in September, a higher-than- expected jump that may have dashed hopes of keeping the annual rate of inflation for 1992 under 10 percent.
The increment, announced Thursday, was blamed mainly on increases in the costs of fruit, vegetables, health and education expenses at the start of the school year.
Inflation has risen by about 1 percent since the year began.
