Alexis Nihon, a Catholic resident of Montreal, has donated a one-acre plot, estimated to be worth $40,000, to the Jewish community of Ville St. Laurent, a suburb of this city, for a site for a synagogue.
Announcement of the gift, which occurred December 9, the last day of Chanukah, was made by L. Arthur Simon, president pro-tem, and other temporary officers of the synagogue. After the synagogue officers had found the site they wanted, they contacted the owner, Mr. Nihon, and opened negotiations for its purchase. When the latter learned that they wanted to erect a synagogue to serve 500 Jewish families on the land, he insisted upon donating the plot.
