In a declaration issued by the teachers they drew the attention of the community to their sad plight stating that it is physically impossible for them to work any longer under the existing conditions. About 30 teachers will be affected by the strike.
The local Talmud Torahs have been hard hit by the depression, contributions and school fees having been greatly reduced and making it difficult to maintain the institutions. Outstanding debts are an additional great burden and Talmud Torah leaders are trying their utmost to alleviate the situation.
