A special committee for reactivation of the Council of Jewish Educational Institutions of Greater Montreal has been formed here, as a result of a meeting of the Council under the chairmanship of the Council’s president, Ben Beutel. Samuel Harvey, a member of the executive committee of the Canadian Jewish Congress, was named chairman of the special committee.
The Council, formed in 1954, includes representatives of all Jewish day schools, afternoon and Sunday schools and yeshivot in Greater Montreal. Among the plans to be worked out by the special committee are means for assisting existing Jewish schools in the area, clearance with regard to teachers’ salaries, pension plans, and a common approach to common problems, including research projects, teacher training and text books.
