Montreal Jews Consider Court Action Against Anti-semites

While a conference of Montreal Jewish leaders considered what legal steps could be taken against a number of French-Canadian publications hostile to the Quebec government who have recently been full of inflamatory anti-Semitic articles the assurance of L. A. Taschereau, Premier of Quebec, to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, to Quebec have nothing to fear from this anti-Semitic agitation was received with great satisfaction by Montreal Jewry.

Although there was no fear of immediate anti-Jewish attacks, the Premier’s statement helped to relieve a certain anxiety that was being felt. At the conference of Jewish leaders it was argued that court action might make martyrs of the anti-Semitic agitators while others expressed the opinion that a French-Canadian Jewry might not want to pass judgment on members of their own race accused of spreading hatred for the Jews.
