The Montreal Jewish Labor Committee today sent Premier Jean Lesage a telegram praising his support of the cultural rights of ethnic groups on his tour in Western Canada and asking the Canadian Government to put that support into practice in Montreal.
Recalling its own support of the “traditional right of every ethnic group to maintain and cultivate its particular values and cultural heritage” before the Royal Commission on Bilingualism and Biculturalism, the Committee’s telegram expressed hope that Mr. Lesage would implement his views by passing legislation which would enable Jewish children in Montreal public schools to learn Yiddish and Jewish cultural values.
