A goal of $4,515,000 for the 1965 Joint Campaign for Combined Jewish Appeal and United Israel Appeal was announced here today by Henry Blatt, general chairman, and Samuel Bronfman, honorary campaign chairman. “This means that we will be seeking to raise at least $385,000 more than last year,” Mr. Broafman stated, “in order to meet the minimum needs of our many local, national and overseas beneficiaries.”
“The Joint Campaign is conducted as a partnership between the Combined Jewish Appeal and United Israel Appeal,” Mr. Blatt emphasized. “We support the Jewish Agency for Israel which conducts a large-scale program of rescue of Jews from certain countries and their resettlement in Israel.”
The participants in the Combined Jewish Appeal include local and national agencies. National participants are Canadian Jewish Congress, United Jewish Relief Agencies and Jewish Immigrant Aid Services. The United Jewish Relief Agencies is a body sponsored by Canadian Jewish Congress for support of Jewish welfare programs in 27 countries overseas and it also subsidizes aid to Jewish immigrants in Canada through the Jewish Immigrant Aid Services and other agencies.
“I would like to emphasize,” Mr. Blatt stated, “that the funds which we do raise for overseas programs are not transmitted in cash. They are rather provided in the form of Canadian credits and supplies so that in this way we are stimulating the export of Canadian goods such as lumber, wheat, etc.
