Rabbi S. Gershon Levi of Montreal has been appointed chaplain of all Jewish troops in Canada, it was announced today. He received the rank of honorary captain from the Department of National Defense. Rabbi Levi has been conducting services for Jewish men in military camps in the Montreal district since the outbreak of war in 1939.
Captain Levi will appoint supernumerary chaplains for the various military districts. He has been in charge of religious education at Congregation Shaar Hashomayim here since 1936. Before that he went to Palestine for a two-year study tour. He was born in Toronto and is a graduate of University of Toronto.
