The board of directors of the Montreal Real Estate Board, in a letter to all members of the trade association, has urged the elimination of discriminatory listings by all real estate dealers.
The letter, signed by Marcel R. Audette, board president, pointed out that the directors resolved unanimously to deplore the practice of accepting listings which carry discriminatory restrictions and to make every effort to end acceptance of such listings.
The Real Estate Board’s action was occasioned by a letter from Monroe Abbey, chairman of the national executive of the Canadian Jewish Congress, who noted that acceptance of discriminatory listings was, “apart from the strict canons of morality, ” an” offense against democracy and good citizenship. ” Mr. Abbey specifically asked directors to set an example to other realtors by refusing to accept such listings. This the directors pledged to do.
