A farewell tribute was today accorded to Mordecai Gazit, Minister of the Israel Embassy who frequently served as Charge D’Affaires during his five years of service in Washington. Leading American diplomats, members of Congress, and other personages including leaders of the American Jewish Community attended a reception in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Gazit tendered by Ambassador Avraham Harman.
Mr. Gazit’s service as second-in-command of the embassy was lauded. Among the guests were Harlan Cleveland, new American Ambassador to NATO, Phillips Talbot, Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, John D. Jernegan, newly designated American Ambassador to Algeria, and others.
Mr. Gazit will assume a senior position in the Israeli Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem with special emphasis on Middle Eastern affairs.
