More crosses appeared near the site of the Auschwitz death camp. Fundamentalist Polish Catholics added to the more than 100 crosses already at the site one day after the Polish government took legal control of a field outside the camp as a first step toward removing them. Jewish groups, along with Polish state and church officials have called for the crosses’ removal.
