The revocation of the medical license of Dr. Herta Oberhauser, the Ravensbrueck concentration camp “euthanasia” physician, has touched off additional investigations of such doctors, it was disclosed today.
The Ministry of the Interior of Schleswig-Holstein has opened an investigation of Prof. A. Catel, former director of the Kiel University Children’s Clinic. Prof. Catel resigned from the clinic after a German-born pediatrician, Rudolf Degwitz, speaking in New York, charged him and other doctors with taking part in the Nazi euthanasia program.
In Hamburg, the prosecutor’s office is investigating the possibility of re-opening crimes proceedings against Dr. Catel and 14 other euthanasia doctors who were acquitted in 1949 a Hamburg court, despite admissions they had killed more than 50 children in a Hamburg Clinic during the Nazi period. The court acquitted them on grounds they “had not conscious done wrong.”
Five of these doctors are known to be practicing medicine in Hamburg at the present time. They are Emma Luethje, Hans Grieve, Wilhelm Bayer, Ingeborg Wetzel and Lotte Albers.
