Elliot, Minister of Agriculture in the present administration, and Colonel John Buchan, the well-known novelist and one of the leading spirits in the Palestine Parliamentary Committee.
All three speakers dwelt particularly on the subject of present Palestine prosperity, which they expressed themselves as due to the establishment of a condition of peace and security in the country. Their speeches created a profound impression particularly in view of the reference to the opening of Transjordan to Jewish settlement and development which, they declared, would bring about a further improvement in Jewish-Arab relations.
An incident which somewhat marred the atmosphere of the evening was the fact that the members of Parliament, who had accepted invitations to this evening’s dinner, had received printed slips addressed to them in Parliament, and bearing the words, “We warn you not to be present at a banquet given by enemies of this country.” This was signed with the words “Imperial Fascist League,” an organization which has no connection with the movement headed by Sir Oswald Mosley.
In conversation, the threatening tone of these slips was widely commented upon by members of Parliament during the evening.
