More than 1,000,000 pounds of relief supplies were received in the month of October by the SOS (Supplies for Overseas Survivors) Collection of the Joint Distribution Committee, it was announced today by Mrs. Isaac Gilzan, national SOS co-chairman. The SOS Collection launched a fall campaign on Sept. 25 for 5,000,000 pounds of food and clothing to tide Europe’s needy Jews through the coming winter months.
October’s record receipts of food and clothing brought the total collected thus far in the fall campaign to more than 1,300,000 pounds and the total collected in the first ten months of 1947 to more than 5,400,000 pounds. Approximately 5,000,000 pounds of SOS contributed relief supplies have been shipped overseas in 1947 for distribution by the JDC.
