Figures released today by the Soviet Ministry of the Armed Forces revealed that 123,822 Jewish officers, man and women of the Red Army received decorations for gallantry during the war. Of these, 101 were awarded the highest Russian military honor, being named Here of the Soviet Union.
The announcement by the War Office said that Jews rank fourth among the more than 150 nationalities of the Soviet Union in the number of soldiers decorated. In first place are the Russians, followed by the Ukrainians, the Byelo-Russians and the Jews and Tatars tied for fourth place.
