More than 150 students were present at the opening of the New Jersey Normal School for Jewish Teachers at Temple B’nai Jeshurun, Newark, last Tuesday night. Solomon Foster, president of the faculty, Dr. Leon Mones, director of the school, and members of the faculty addressed the students.
Funeral services for Dr. Joseph Meltus. 59, well-known physician and psychologist of Cincinnati and active worker in Independent Order B’nai Brith were held on Wednesday. Dr. Meltus was graduated from the Ohio Medical College in 1894 and served as an instructor at Miami Medical College. He wrote a number of booklets on psychological subjects chief of which was “The Will.”
Felix Fuld presided at the 16th Annual Convention of New Jersey Federation of YMHA’s and YWHA’s which opened Saturday night. The opening business session was followed by a State Ball. The educational conferences on Sunday considered the subjects of functions of Boards of Directors, physical education for women, and mass activities.
M. Maldwin Fertig, President of the Bronx YMHA, Miss Marguerite Hussey of New York University, Rabbi Louis Wolsey, Philip Forman, Former Governor Edward C. Stokes and Mayor Frederick W. Donnelly of Trenton, addressed the opening session.
Isaac Goldberg is Honorary Chairman and Louis B. Shipper, Chairman of State Convention Committee. The Jewish Welfare Board was represented by the Field Secretary, E. J. Londow.
