More than twice as many immigrants were admitted to the United States during the month of January than departed from the country. The immigration statistics for the month of January, just made public by Harry E. Hull, Commissioner of Immigration, show that 28,023 aliens entered and 13,981 departed during that month.

Nearly two-thirds of these immigrants were home-makers. Of the 1,499 aliens who were turned back because of faulty visas or for other reasons, 1,171 were barred at the Canadian border, 128 on the Mexican border and 132 on the Atlantic seaboard.
