The Moroccan Government today ordered the cancellation of Jewish community elections throughout Morocco. The sudden order came on the eve of the elections. It was issued by Premier Bekkai and conveyed to the communities over the telephone.
It is assumed that the order is related to the impending changes in Moroccan legislation. Hitherto Jewish communal elections were not valid until approved by the Grand Vizier. A new statute is expected in the very near future to define the states of the Jewish communities.
