Horris Gest, the well-known American producer and Max Reinhardt, the famous German stage director escaped death or serious injuries when the castleof Mr. Reinhardt, situated near Salzburg, was set on fire last night.

The building was greatly damaged and many rare pieces of furniture and other treasurers were lost. Fortunately Mr. Gest and Mr. Reinhardt had left, several hours before the fire, for Venice, where they are making preparations for the New York

production of Offenbach’s “Orpheus in the Underworld.”

The perpetrators of the fire have not been discovered by the police. Suspicion has attached itself to the anti-Semites who are now attending the Hakenkreuzler conference in Salzburg.
