The charge that speculation in the imported matzoth is going on was made by the Narkomtorg, Soviet Commissariat of Trade. The agreement under which the matzoth were imported stipulated that they be distributed free of charge to poor Jews. Action will therefore be taken against speculators, it was declared.
Up to date, three carloads of matzoth were received for Moscow, one for Leningrad and one for White Russia. The authorities released the carloads after collecting fifty kopeks per kilogram as duty.
