The Chief Rabbinate today received a cable from Moscow expressing condolence over the death of Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Halevi Herzog. The cable was signed by Chief Rabbi Levin of Moscow.
The Soviet Chief Rabbi indicated in his cable that the news of Rabbi Herzog’s death had just reached the Soviet Union. There had been puzzlement in certain Israel circles as to why Moscow was missing from the messages of condolences received from Soviet bloc countries.
