Four Jewish activists were arrested outside the Grand Hotel in Moscow last night and sentenced to 15 days imprisonment for “disturbing the peace and hooliganism,” Jewish sources in the Soviet Union reported. It was the second demonstration in two days by Jews in the Soviet capital in support of demands for exit visas. The four were identified as Hersh Tocker, Gregory Blufarb, Joseph Beilin and Yuli Pevzner.
During the demonstration, onlookers shouted “Burn all Jews” and “Hitler didn’t finish the job.” the sources reported. Six Jews arrested in the earlier demonstration were also given 15-day jail terms. They had been carrying a banner calling for freedom for “prisoners of Zion.”
Two Jews were arrested in Lwow in the Western Ukraine when the local militia raided a private home used as a synagogue. Jewish sources in Russia reported today. Several Torah scrolls and prayer books were confiscated. The premises at 38 Zhovtiyeva St. belonged to A. Minin who was arrested along with another local Jew surnamed Meirowitz. They were released after Meirowitz paid a 60 ruble fine for “depraving youth by religious agitation.”
