For the first time since the Soviet Union began its current anti-Israel propaganda campaign, a Communist publication today directly linked Soviet restrictions on emigration to Israel with alleged Israel “expansion policies.”
The new line appeared in a new attack published in the latest issue of the “Mezhdounarodnaia Zhizn, ” official Soviet organ devoted to foreign affairs, which reached Paris today. The article charged that “Israel ambitions were to occupy the entire area between the Suez Canal and the Persian Gulf.”
Severely condemning these alleged ambitions, the publication asserted that the Soviet Union would discourage Israel from action to achieve these “ambitions” by all possible means, including “restrictions on the emigration of Jews to Israel.” The article quoted a number of alleged letters from immigrants who found themselves disappointed with Israel conditions.
In another aspect of the campaign, the Soviet Radio for the first time in years broadcast a talk on racial discrimination in the Soviet Union. The broadcast admitted that “certain discriminations have existed among the uncultured masses” but that these discriminations were now under control.
