A campaign against the Moscow “Emes,” one time organ of the Jewish section of the Communist Party, and particularly against its editor, Moishe Litvakov, has been started by the general Soviet press in Moscow. The papers are aroused over what they say is his “imperial” desire to govern over everything and everybody in Soviet Jewish cultural life.
A series of articles appearing in the “Vetchernaya Moskva”, the “Komsomolskaya Pravda” and other papers indicate that the “Emes” played a damaging part in the interests of Jewish cultural life. Instead of encouraging Jewish writers and artists the papers say that Litvakov terrorized them by all possible means in order to make them submit to his dictation.
A number of Jewish Communist leaders and writers have also joined the anti-“Emes” and anti-Litvakov campaign. Unable to ignore the fight against him, which is nearing an open scandal, Litvakov is endeavoring to explain that the abolition of the Jewish section of the Communist Party encouraged the fight against the “Emes.”
