Moscow Radio Reports Weizmann’s Views in Broadcast to Polish Jews

The Moscow radio, in a broadcast directed to the Jews of Poland, today gave a summary of the opinions recently expressed by Dr. Chaim Weizmann, president of the Jewish Agency for Palestine, as regards Jewish rights in the post-war world. It also quoted a number of resolutions on the stabilization of the Jewish position after the war, adopted within the past few weeks by Jewish organizations in England and America. This was the first time that a Soviet broadcast has presented the views of Dr. Weizmann.

Reporting that the Jews in the democratic countries were displaying great interest in the plight of Polish Jewry, the Russian broadcaster quoted Dr. Weizmann’s recent addresses in New York and in Washington, summarizing the suggestions violated by the Zionist leader and his review of the conditions of Jews in Nazi-held Europe.

The demand for Jewish equality in post-war Poland, as presented to the Polish National Council last week by Samuel Zygelbaum, Jewish Socialist deputy, was also relayed to the Polish Jews by the Moscow radio.

The Polish Jews in the ghettos were assured by the Soviet commentator that the Jews of the USSR will not lay down their arms and will continue to fight the Nazi hordes until racism is completely destroyed.”

SOVIET JEWISH GENERAL PROMOTED; JEWISH OFFICERS DECORATED FOR HEROISM

The Soviet press today reports that General Samuel Rogachevski, one of the outstanding Jewish military leaders, has been promoted by the Soviet military command to the rank of Major General in recognition for his services at the from A number of Jewish colonials and majors are also listed as recipients of the Red Star, bestowed for heroism on the front lines.

Abram Bychowski, director of the largest Soviet munition plant, was today awarded the medal of Hero of Socialist Labor for the production record set by the munition factory under his supervision. Among the Jewish military officers decorated with the Red Star is a group of artillery men who are credited with destroying an important enemy position. They include Col. Gotlieb Chanus, Major Kopilev and Senior Lieutenants Pewzner, Bunim and Kosover, and two Jewish engineers, Col. Beum and Col. Sokoliwer.

An eye-witness account of the mass-murder of Jews in Odessa by the Nazis is published in the Moscow press today, related by S. Klebanov, a Jew who succeeded in fleeing from Odessa to the Soviet front. Klebanov tells the story of how 25,000 Jews in Odessa – man, woman and children – were crowded into barracks and machine-gunned. Later the barracks were set afire and all the Jews burned to ashes.
