A volume of translations of works of Israel poets, the first translation of modern Hebrew writing to appear in Russian, will be published soon, it was reported here today from Moscow.

The report appeared in Noviye Knigi, a handbook for publishers and booksellers issued in Moscow, Thirty six poets will be represented, mostly in translations from Hebrew but with some from Yiddish and Arabic. All poets in the volume are said to be what is known in the Soviet Union as “progressive,” a phrase interpreted in the West to mean Communists or fellow travelers.
