A challenge to the Soviet Government to permit a delegation of responsible Jews from the western world to investigate the condition of Jews in the Soviet Union and in the satellite nations was made here today by Lord Vansitart, former member of the British Cabinet who was one of the earliest foes of Nazism in the pre-war days.

In a letter to the Manchester Guardian taking issue with a defense of the Soviet regime by a Communist newspaperman, Andrew Rothstein, Lord Vansitart charged that the Soviet authorities were appealing to the Nazis and to the Arabs in their current campaign. Referring to the settlement of Jews in Biro-Bidjan, which Rothstein had held up as a model of what has-been done for the Jews in the Soviet Union, Lord Vansitart wanted to know why the Jews “were packed off to that horrible spot instead of being allowed to go to Palestine.”
