The Association of Yiddish Writers and Journalists in Israel received today, and promptly accepted, an invitation to contribute to a special issue of Sovietisch Heimland, the monthly published in Yiddish in Moscow. The issue, according to the invitation, will be devoted to Israel and to Israeli writers in the Yiddish language.
The invitation was sent by Aaron Vergelis, editor of Sovietisch Heimland, who sent similar bids to Israeli authors writing in Hebrew and in Arabic.
The Association of Yiddish Writers and Journalists said it "welcomed" the invitation by Mr. Vergelis, and expressed the hope that the planned special issue of the Moscow monthly on Israel and Israeli Yiddish literature "may mark the beginning of a rapprochement between Yiddish writers in Russia and their colleagues in Israel."
