Moshe Czerniak, Jerusalem chess master, was adjudged the winner today of the Schlechter Chess Memorial tournament and won the title of international chess champion.
Competing against the world’s outstanding chess masters, including Lasker and Steiner of the United States, Czerniak scored eight victories. The title of international chess champion is bestowed only if half the competitors have held the title previously.
