The Sabbath Evening Service, “Avodath Hakodesh,” by the American Jewish composer Ernest Bloch, was performed here last night by a mixed chorus comprising 40 Jewish, 20 English and 10 Moslem singers. Among the singers was Director MacNair of the Palestine Broadcasting Service.
The oratorio, which was written by Bloch on commission from the late Felix M, Warburg and dedicated to his son Gerald F. Warburg, the ‘cellist, was given under the auspices of the World Center for Jewish Music.
